{soups-salads-and-salad-dressings} Some possible solutions in the wake of Yahoo groups recent decision

Some possible solutions in the wake of Yahoo groups recent decision

This is intended to offer some help to group owners that wish to keep their groups running and also to those folks that might find themselves without a group that has been their home due to the groups not continuing after yahoo deletes everything.

What to do with yahoo groups making such radical and to some groups, totally devastating changes to the Yahoo Group Format.

For smaller groups, the changes might not be a real issue, especially if you do not save files, photos or links, all of which will be deleted forever on December 14th. But for the larger groups and those that for years and years have saved files, photos and links that are extremely important to their members, these changes by Yahoo are utterly devastating.

So many groups have already just closed their doors and deleted their groups before the changes take effect and this is a terrific shame.

I don't profess to have the perfect answer but I do have a suggestion for the group owners that wish to keep their groups going but just don't know where to go.

You can transfer your group over the the Groups.io platform. This is very similar to the yahoo platform but it has a few added features to it. There is a free option which gives you 1GB of storage and a paid version which costs $10 a month and this gives you 10GB of storage for those that have massive files sections or save a massive amount of photos. Your members won't be so freaked out and worried that they won't be able to function in the new platform. It even looks very similar to what they are used to with the Yahoo group format.

Many group owners sign up for the free one to begin with and then if it suits them, and they need the extra storage, they upgrade to the paid version.

I have given the link to transfer groups over below here and I hope that this helps.

Easy Group Transfer To Groups IO

Hello,

Do you have a group with Yahoo or Google that you'd like to move to Groups.io? We've just launched our group transfer service to make it easy to do. Simply click here and follow the instructions.

Have an idea for how to improve Groups.io? Join the beta group and let us know.

Thanks for using Groups.io!

Okay a small solution to folks that are in groups that are not transferring to another platform and that wish to continue sharing information (and recipes) to help others and to have other folks to chat with:

I have listed two links below and would like to invite those that wish to continue sharing information and chatting with others to come and join either group or if you prefer, join both groups.

The groups have an awesome group of people in each and they would love to have more people to share and to chat with. So you are more than welcome to come along and join if you wish.

Prudent-Living

https://prudent-living.groups.io

This group covers everything homesteading and self reliant related such as gardening, beekeeping, permaculture, frugal living, alternative power, cooking, raising animals, farming, canning, survival skills, preparedness, learning many of the older skills and keeping the older skills alive before they are lost forever. etc. etc.

Delicious Low Budget Recipes

https://groups.io/g/DeliciousLowBudgetRecipes

This group is for folks that love to share and collect recipes. We share budget friendly recipes, old family recipes and favourites and recipes that do not use a lot of prepackaged or commercially processed foods. This group too has a bunch of really good people that just love to help others be able to cook cheaper while not compromising on flavour.

These groups have few rules but do insist on members being courteous, and polite to each other. They also prefer not to have lurkers but to have folks join that wish to be active and participate so that everyone can learn and thus share.

{soups-salads-and-salad-dressings} Group News

Group News

Dear Recipe Group Members

I have been informed of the following. Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 28, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded. Therefore, I am going to delete the groups. I can't delete the ones I don't own. That will be up to the owners of those groups. I will leave them up untll December 1st. If you want any of the recipes. I advise you to do so before December. I could move them elsewhere but I don't want to start over. If you want to keep my e-mail address to contact me for a recipe. Please feel free to do so.

Have you all decided what you are going to do with these groups when we can no longer post to them? Have you decided whether you are just going to close them or migrate them to another site? Just curious/

Re: {soups-salads-and-salad-dressings} OT: ATTN to group owners

I don't really know. I don't know of any other site to post recipes and my other groups. I might just close them. There is one that might be left open for the members to read what has been posted.
